Athletes Attacked by Armed Robbers at Usain Bolt track

Racers Track Club athletes training at the Usain Bolt track at the University of the West Indies in Mona, St Andrew were victims of an attempted robbery on Tuesday evening.

Details are still unclear, but police sources says that armed men scaled the perimeter wall to the facility and attacked the athletes, including British sprinter Zharnel Hughes, who reportedly had a gun pointed at him.

“The men jumped the wall and were heading to the athletes. Reports are that a licensed firearm holder saw what was happening and advanced to the men.

“When the criminals saw what was happening, they fired shots in the air and retreated,” a source from the Half-Way Tree Police station explained.

Reports at that while the men made a hasty retreat, one of them picked up a bag belonging to one of the athletes and escaped.

No one was hurt.
