Palpatine was not most people's idea of a dreamboat – and that was even before his hideous disfigurement – but power adds its own allure. It's fair to say that the Senator, turned Chancellor, turned Galactic Emperor had a lot of power.
A new look at certain scenes from the prequel trilogy, combined with evidence from Legends sources reveals that the man also known as Darth Sidious had a secret lover and child.
Who was the lucky recipient of his Dark and Force-full attentions?
Could this have anything to do with Rey's mysterious past?
A remarkably detailed new theory indicates that Sly Moore, the Umbaran right hand woman of Palpatine, was also his lover. Unsurprisingly, her affections for him were manipulated from the very start, when she was kidnapped as a child on his orders.
The new theory cites many sources and says: “The public believed that she and Emperor Palpatine had a romantic relationship with some of them going as far as giving her the unofficial title of Queen of the Empire."
STAR WARS THE LAST JEDI NEW UK RELEASE DATE REVEALED
The Star Wars site Fact Free cites a scene in Episode 3 that shows the happy pair laughing together intimately on what appears to be a date at the opera on Coruscant.
In Legends sources Sly Moore apparently had a three-eyed secret son, imaginatively called Triclops, with Palpatine, after she impregnanted herself with his DNA. How romantic.
Fact Free quotes Star Wars Legends sources that reveal Sly was a Force-sensitive child who was kidnapped by Darth Maul on Palpatine’s orders, before the Jedi could find and train her. She was subjected to Sith torture and experiments but survived and an impressed Palpatine pretended to rescue her and raised her.
With her loyalty assured, Palpatine revealed his plans and Sith identity and raised her to become his Senior Administrative Aide.
As well as her regular duties, Palpatine also used Sly’s Force abilities and her native Umbaran mind-clouding skills to use her as a decoy, impersonating him as Darth Sidious to confuse any of his own minions who had begun to suspect his secret identity.
Sly rose even higher when Palpatine took control and created his Empire but her ambition was her downfall.
Obsessed with Darth Plagueis and his experiments to create life by perverting midichlorians, she used Palpatine’s DVA and Plagueis’ methods to become pregnant. Unfortunately she died in childbirth.
Palpatine, either through grief at the loss of his lover or fear of what his powerful son’s abilities, kept Triclops in terrible conditions as a slave on Kessel until he was rescued by Luke Skywalker after the fall of the Empire.
Triclops eventually goes mad and goes missing. It's intriguing to wonder if he could be Rey's father, but all this information is Legend not Canon, so it is unlikely he will be brought back into the movie universe.
